John Valentine Gentilis - Europe - 16th Century

John Valentine Gentilis, a victim to the persecuting spirit of the Calvinists, in the sixteenth century, was born at Cosenza in Calabria. Having become a convert to the principles of the Reformation, he was obliged to fly from his native country towards the middle of the sixteenth century, and to t...

Re: Intentional Corruptions in Mainstream Bible Translations

Why did the recently published “New International Version” (NIV) of the Bible fail to use the name of God where it appears about 7,000 times in ancient Bible manuscripts? In response to a person who inquired about this, Edwin H. Palmer, Th.D., Executive Secretary for the NIV’s committee wrote: “Her...

Intentional Corruptions in Mainstream Bible Translations

1 John 5:7 in the NKJV (NT portion published in 1979) reads: "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one." Regarding the latter half of the verse, i.e. "in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are...

Re: Jesus’ life before his birth

In re-reading my Appendix A Jesus’ Jerusalem Lamentations, I decided to elaborate further on two key turns of thought, to make it easier to follow. Specifically after Table 1 on two paragraphs before and after the first Gathercole quote. (I got those quotes from Mark Davis.) Jim, that argument is q...

Re: Jesus’ life before his birth

That was an excellent and compelling write-up, Jim! The passage from Philippians that you unpacked has always been the key passage for me personally on this topic, although you make an excellent case from Ephesians 4:9 and also asking about the purpose of the virgin birth if Jesus did not pre-exist....

Re: To have been or not to have been...

Awesome article, Jim! It really gets to the root of why Jesus cannot currently exist in some elevated form of his prior humanity. It really would invalidate the ransom sacrifice, which is the legal engine by which a just God saves a fallen humankind. If Jesus retained any aspect of his ontological h...

Re: To have been or not to have been...

Really excellent articles, Jim. I found this statement to well express my feelings: At Acts 17:31 and 1 Timothy 2:5, the resurrected Jesus is called "a man."[1] This description would naturally refer to Jesus' experience as a man on earth during his ministry—it would more fittingly be applied to him...

Re: To have been or not to have been...

Interestingly, here's another example of how the Greek text at 1 Timothy 2:5-6 can be interpreted by translators: "There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us." (CEV) This rendering highlights the con...

Re: To have been or not to have been...

With respect, I think our discussion has come to a close. Thank you for your participation Greg. I was waiting for you to expand upon your vague objection to my previous post before I answered it, but since you chose to not explain yourself, I'll go ahead and provide more justification for that now...
